La Cadencia
The concept of La Cadencia is an intimate downtown milonga where you can enjoy the
best of tango music and a glass of wine. Cadencia is the music that you feel. It is tango
itself. It is the marking of time that flows evenly through tango. Savor that magic moment
between dusk and night in the heart of the city.
About the milonga
The venue is Tokyo Tango City (http://tokyotangocity.com/), two minutes’ walk from
Shibuya Station. La Cadencia is held every second Saturday of the month with DJs
Shuei and Tomoko. The first milonga is on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Entry is 2,000 yen
per person or 3,000 yen per couple. The hosts speak English and Spanish as well as
Japanese. There is no dress code, but we expect dancers to be courteous and capable of
dancing on a crowded floor without overtaking or bumping into others.
La Cadencia is a milonga run by amateur dancers that is open to all in a win-win
collaboration with the dance studio providing the venue. We encourage dancers to attend
as couples so that there is an even number of men and women.
The dance floor is 4 x 6 meters. There are tables and chairs with seating for 40. We
consider the floor to be comfortably occupied with eight couples (3.3 square meters per
couple), and crowded with 24 couples (1 square meter per couple).
Popular DJs Shuei and Tomoko have gigs at La Baldosa and Tokyo Milonga. They mainly
play Golden Age traditional tango, with tandas consisting of four tangos, three valses, or
three milongas. Their playlists are in the style of milongas held in the center of Buenos
Aires. They will play traditional tango standards from 15:30 to 17:30, and popular, well-
known traditional tango songs from 17:30 to 19:30. As well as cortinas between the tandas,
they will play one non-tango Latin song (salsa, bachata, etc.,) around 17:30 to break up the
two sections of the milonga.
The entry fee includes one drink ticket, which you can exchange for a soft drink, wine, or
beer. Empanadas and other Argentinian snacks and bottles of wine are on sale at the bar.
